(May 2009) - NOVA has been ranked by Engineering News Record (ENR) as one of the "Top 500 Engineering Design Firms". The ranking is based on firms with U.S.-based operations only.

AGC San Diego Engineering Professionals
Making an Impact on the Industry

With over 65 years of combined experience, long-time local engineering and environmental professionals and active members of the AGC, Mark Baron, Dan Barnett, and Chad Davis have opened the doors to NOVA Engineering and Environmental, a geotechnical, environmental and construction materials testing consulting firm.

Friends and competitors since 1989, Mark Baron and Dan Barnett acquired the commercial division of GeoTek Inc., located in San Diego, California, to utilize the expertise and client relationships they developed in order to become a major factor in the local marketplace. Immediately thereafter, NOVA acquired this division from Barnett and Baron along with the assets of Davis Earth and Materials, Inc., immediately enhancing their engineering and laboratory capabilities.  “This acquisition was a perfect fit because its principals have brought extensive local experience and knowledge of the industry,” says Dick Wright, CEO of the parent company, NOVA Group Services. “The San Diego office will make a positive impact on our company as well as on the San Diego market.“

NOVA may be a new company to San Diego, but its principals’ experience and knowledge is not. Mark Baron brings 30 years of experience includes working as a Journeyman Bricklayer, Peace Corps volunteer building schools in West Africa, special inspector for AEL, Operations Manager for a geotechnical engineering and testing firm and later becoming the President of Testing Engineers – San Diego, Inc. Dan Barnett has over 20 years of experience in sales and marketing working with international, national and regional firms. Dan started in the industry as a heavy equipment operator building bridges and pipelines in Colorado. While gaining skills in sales and management, he transitioned his position to become the Vice President of Business Development for a geotechnical engineering and testing firm in San Diego, California and later the Executive Vice President of Client Development for GeoTek, Inc. Chad Davis has over 15 years of technical experience specializing in construction materials, construction quality control management and geotechnical engineering.  Chad worked at the University of Nevada’s Asphalt Research Laboratory, Harding Lawson as the Laboratory Manager, performed forensic engineering at Opterra, Testing Engineers as the Materials Engineering Manager after which he started Davis Earth and Materials in 2004.

With this acquisition, NOVA’s mission is to offer its San Diego clients full-service capabilities by bringing integrity and commitment to quality. “It is the little things that matter, such as returning a phone call promptly, responding to an email swiftly, and delivering reports on time or even early,” says Dan Barnett. “NOVA is committed to being proactive in staying in constant communication with its clients.”
